Ongoing Police Investigation - Friday, February 19, 2021

At approximately 5:40 p.m. on February 19, 2021 Fredericton Police responded to a reported theft in progress in the area of College Hill Road with two males going through vehicles.  As police arrived on scene the males were seen running through a fenced parking lot and getting into a dark colored SUV.

The SUV proceeded to hit the front passenger side of marked police vehicle causing the airbags to deploy. The officer was not injured.

The suspects were able to flee the scene in the SUV; however the vehicle had sustained considerable damage, and by remaining in operation it posed a significant public safety risk.

The SUV then made its way to Prospect Street where it proceeded to strike additional civilian vehicles.  The suspect vehicle was located and immobilized on Prospect Street west, and the two suspects fled on foot.

One male was arrested and remains in custody at this time.

The second male remains at large, however police advise there is no ongoing risk to public safety. The male is described as being Caucasian, in his late 20s or early 30s, wearing all black. It is believed that the male sustained an injury to his left leg.

Anyone with information about the male or any further information about the ongoing investigation is asked to contact Fredericton Police at 460-2300, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

We are pleased to report that there were no civilians or police officers injured during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
