- If you can see lightning or hear thunder, you are at risk of being hit by lightning. If you are outside and hear thunder or see lightning, immediately take shelter inside a building or a hard-topped vehicle. There is no safe place outside during a thunderstorm. If you’re on the water and see bad weather coming, head for shore immediately and take shelter.
- Stay inside until 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder.
- Stay away from windows and doors.
- Stay away from things that conduct electricity (e.g. corded telephones, appliances, sinks, bathtubs, radiators and metal pipes).
- If you are in a car, park away from trees or power lines that might fall on you). Stay in the car until the storm passes.
