The City of Fredericton offers a wide array of activities for those looking to get involved!
For anyone—child, youth, adult or senior—taking part in sports programs using the City of Fredericton’s indoor ice and sports fields, or for those registering for municipal day camps and outdoor swim lessons, you must sign up for a Rec Card. Each person obtains their own Rec Card, which allows users to see when, where, and what recreational activities are being offered and how to sign up for them.
Zig Zag Summer Playground Program 2023
AGE: 6-12 yrs
COST: Free
Zig Zag is the City of Fredericton’s unique and popular park program enjoyed by youth aged 6-12. Zig Zag is offered free of charge to interested children in the neighborhoods visited. This means that the children who attend are free to come and go as they wish. Activities are based on the interests of the children, the focus is on physical activity, but some time is also spent on crafts, and quiet games.

Northside Youth Centre and Skateboard Day Camps 2023
The Northside Youth Centre will be open this summer from June 6 to August 25
- Summer Drop in Hours (June 30th-August 27th)
In addition to the NYC being open, Fredericton Recreation will be offering the same popular skateboard day camps (maximum of 30). There will be nine weeks of full-day camps.
Girls Only Learn to Skateboard - Weekend camp
Are you new to skateboarding? At the Northside Youth Center we have skilled instructors who will teach you the basics and beyond. Whether you are a total beginner or if you already know a few basic tricks; these lessons will take you to the next level. Girls will learn skills from how to push along the floor to techniques for going down ramps. Lessons will include a warm up, group lessons and 30 minutes of free skate to practice new skills! We have the skateboards, helmets and all the other safety gear that you will need to learn to skateboard safely. Certificates will be presented to the participants at the end of the four-week camp.
Session 1-Mondays: June 12th, 19th & 26th 6:00 pm-7:30pm
Session 2 - Sundays: July 9th, 16th & 23rd 11:30 am- 1:00 pm
Wednesday Walkers 2023
A free walking club for all interested adults. This group meets every Wednesday at 10am from early May through to Mid-October for a one-hour long walk. Friday Morning Drop-In Bridge

Join us at the Fredericton Senior Center, 112 Johnston Ave for weekly Friday morning drop-in Bridge from 9:15am – 11:45am beginning on September 15.
It is a fun and casual group; partners are not required. Bridge players of all levels are welcome. Cost will be $10 for the season.

Intro to Line Drawing
Sept 18- Oct 30
Registration opens on Sept 5
Participants will become familiar with materials used for completing various works. They will use pencils, and other materials helpful in achieving realistic levels or shading and precise drawing techniques. Those who have taken the course before can attend again and will have the opportunity to practice with this group.

An Introduction to Meditation

OIL PAINTING with Ron Léger

Classes are Thursday mornings from 9:30-11am at the Fredericton Seniors Center, 112 Johnston Ave.
Ron has over 30 years of teaching experience in visual art. Join him for valuable lessons on the fundamentals of oil painting. Value, form, chroma/intensity and simplification are some of the many of the topics that will be covered. If you are a beginner or intermediate level painter, you will benefit from the class. The course will feature demonstrations and hands on painting experience with one-on-one assistance and critiques.
Please bring your own supplies, if you have extras you are prepared to share, please bring them. Some supplies will be available for beginners. A list of necessary supplies will be provided upon registration. All adults welcome.

Carpet Bowling

Writing Well 2: A Creative Writing Course

Fredericton Recreation & Culture presents:
Instructor: Heather Browne, MFA in Creative Writing, leads an eight week in- house writing program.
Heather’s writing prompts, timed writing sessions, and mini lectures are designed to open new writing experiences for participants and inspire work that they engage in outside of class.
Learn how to make the page your friend and discover more about writing (and living) well. The Writing Well 2 series emphasises traditional forms over the more organic ones of the first. Writing Well 1 is not a requirement.
Explore your creative side while writing with others around a “table for writers”. All interested adults are welcome.

Wednesday afternoon board games (and cards)
Wednesday afternoons from 1-4pm, September 20 to December 6 at the Fredericton Senior Center, 112 Johnston Ave.
Friendships begin with cribbage, dominos, backgammon, checkers, chess, puzzles, colouring, cards, and more. All adults are welcome to drop-in for this free weekly event.
Looking for a social opportunity? Come, have fun! Join us and sit down with a favourite, learn a new game or relax and chat in our little café.
No experience necessary. There is something for everyone. Teachers are available, new games will be introduced most weeks.

Fredericton Indoor Pool
Recreation swim:
A lifeguard supervised, unstructured swim time. This swim is open to all ages with full pool facility use, family friendly atmosphere, and recreational equipment available. Those under 7 years of age and non-swimmers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Features: Water slide, Swirl Pool (92 oC ), Tarzan rope, and diving board.
Family swim:
A lifeguard supervised unstructured swim time geared towards families with full pool facility access and recreational equipment available. Those under the age of 19 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Features: Water slide, Swirl Pool (92 oC), Tarzan rope, and diving board.
Trans, Gender Diverse and 2 Spirit Swim:
A lifeguard supervised, unstructured swim time with full facility access. This swim is geared towards those who identify as Trans, Gender Diverse or Two-Spirited, in addition to friends and family. This is an inclusive atmosphere with recreational equipment available.
Features: Water slide, Swirl Pool (92 oC), Tarzan rope, and diving board.
Recreation swim for women and girls:
A lifeguard supervised, unstructured swim time for women and girls only, all ages welcome. Full pool facility access, friendly atmosphere, and recreational equipment available.

Recreation swim for men and boys:
A lifeguard supervised unstructured swim time for men and boys only, all ages welcome. Full pool facility access, friendly atmosphere, and recreational equipment available.

Senior recreation swim:
A lifeguard supervised swim time open to those over 60, with full pool facility access and recreational equipment available.

Senior lap swim:
A lifeguard supervised, lap swim open to those over 60, with six 25 meter lanes, swirl pool access, and swimming equipment available.
Tot and Me Swim:
A lifeguard supervised swim in the swirl pool (92 oC) for children under 5 and their guardian, with full access to recreational equipment such as, toys and flotation devices.
Lap Swim:
A lifeguard supervised, lap swim open to those 7 and older, with six 25-meter lanes, and swimming equipment provided including kick boards, fins, and pull buoys. Patrons must be able to swim continuously for at least 25 meters.
Pool rental:
A lifeguard supervised swim time open to all ages that can be rented for full private access to the pool facilities with swimming and recreational equipment available.
Features: Water slide, Swirl Pool (92 oC), Tarzan rope, and diving board.
Aquatic stretch:
A lifeguard supervised, structured aquatic stretch class lead by an instructor in the Swirl Pool (92 oC). Great for those with joint or muscle issues looking to improve or maintain their range of motion.
Aquacise:
A lifeguard supervised exercise class open to all ages and skill levels that takes place in your choice of the shallow or deep end of the pool. The class is lead by a trained instructor with music playing in a very friendly and social environment with equipment provided.
Aqua Zumba:
A lifeguard supervised, fast-paced exercise class open to all ages and skill level that takes place in your choice of the shallow or deep end of the pool. The class lead by a trained Aqua Zumba instructor with a very social environment, Zumba music and swimming equipment provided.
