The Fredericton Police Force (FPF), in collaboration with the City of Fredericton (COF) and the Atlantic Police Academy (APA), will offer an APA satellite class anticipated to launch in Fredericton early 2025.
The program will see 12 cadets enrol and be trained in Fredericton, NB. Upon successful completion of the course, cadets will be hired with the Fredericton Police Force, complete a one-year probationary period, in good standing and commit to a minimum of 2 years of service with the Fredericton Police Force.
The program will primarily be delivered in Fredericton, NB and jointly hosted by the Fredericton Police Force and the Atlantic Police Academy.
The purpose of this innovative initiative is twofold: first, it aims to effectively tackle the existing and projected staff shortages within the Fredericton Police Force. Secondly, it seeks to broaden access and create opportunities for individuals who may not be able to pursue full-time out-of-province studies.
Given the recruitment challenges faced by national and municipal police forces across the region and country, a creative and forward-looking approach was necessary to address this issue. As a result, this initiative will enable the onboarding of 12 new officers upon their successful completion of the course.
Eligible participants will have access to financing through payroll deduction. This financial support aims to ease the burden of program costs. Upon successful completion of the program and the On-the-Job Training (OJT) component, cadets will be hired by the FPF, and repayment will take place over a negotiated term. Cadets will be paid during the 12-week OJT period to help ease the burden of the program cost.
Cost Considerations:
Since the program is hosted in Fredericton, there will be no residence or lodging cost factored into the tuition costs. This arrangement significantly reduces the overall program costs for cadets.
In summary, this initiative not only provides financial support but also offers a pathway to meaningful employment within the Fredericton Police Force, increasing affordability.
The entrance requirements are available online, but follow the same guidelines as the APA in Summerside.
