Household Hazardous Waste

Household hazardous waste— waste containing corrosive, toxic, flammable, or reactive ingredients—requires special handling. You may NOT pour these products down the drain, and you may NOT put them out with your regular curbside garbage. On Household Hazardous Waste Days, you may take these hazardous waste items to the Capital Region Service Commission at 1775 Alison Blvd. This is a FREE service by CRSC.

Common hazardous waste includes:

  • Pesticides
  • Paint stripper
  • Medicines
  • Paints and thinners
  • Stains and finishes
  • Propane tanks
  • Bleach
  • Car batteries
  • Used oil
  • Rug shampoo
  • Floor wax
  • Oil
  • Upholstery cleaners
  • Gas
  • Furniture polishes
  • Metal polishes
  • Pool chemicals

Look for symbols indicating the product is corrosive, toxic, reactive or flammable or look for the words “Danger”, “Poison”, “Caution”, and “Warning”.

The Household Hazardous Waste Depot, at Capital Region Service Commission, has specially trained staff to receive hazardous waste.

This no-charge service is offered every Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., and every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
