Change to Community Bin Service

The City of Fredericton is notifying residents of a change to the northside Community Recycling Bins, located at the Brookside Mall. Due to littering around the Brookside Mall bins, the City will be moving the bins from the Brookside Mall and consolidating this operation on City property to Willie O’Ree Place at 605 Cliffe St. This change will occur on September 26 and will result in a complete end to recycling drop off at Brookside Mall.

The Capital Region Service Commission (CRSC), is managed by RSC 11, runs the region’s landfill and is responsible for the region’s recycling program.

The City of Fredericton offers curbside recycling pickup on behalf of residents and delivers it to the landfill. We also offer depot recycling at three convenient locations for people living in apartments with more than 5 units and some condominiums.

Curbside Pickup for Homes

The City collects recyclables for residents as part of the Capital Region Service Commission’s (CRSC) recycling program.

The blue box is for:

All plastic containers
All tin, steel and aluminum food cans.
Plastic shopping bags
All refundable beverage containers (except glass)

The grey box is for:

Newspapers
Flyers
Magazines
Corrugated cardboard and boxboard
Phonebooks, paperback books and textbooks without windows
Computer paper
Scribblers
Coloured and white bond paper

Note: “Blue” and “grey” refer to material types. Feel free to use any colour box you like for your materials, provided they are between 45L and 60L.

Glass

The Capital Region Service Commission does not include glass in its recycling program. However, you can recycle your household glass here.

What you Need to Know

The recycling truck collects each box on alternating weeks (grey, then blue, then grey, etc.) on the same day as your regular waste collection.
Place the appropriate box for the week, full, at the curb before 7:00 a.m. on your regular garbage day.

Recycling Depots for Multi-Unit Dwellings

The City of Fredericton operates three recycling depots for use by residents of apartments with more than 5 units and some condominiums. These depots can be found at:

Capital Winter Club, 232 Rookwood Avenue – Parking lot on side of building
Willie O’Ree Place – North corner of the main parking lot
Brookside Mall Parking Lot - North edge fronting Reynolds

These depots complement the Capital Region Service Commission’s current blue and grey box curbside recycling program, and take the same recyclable materials.

The recycling depots are not intended for commercial use.
Please do not leave material outside the bins, even if they’re full. Material left outside the bins will not be recycled.
Please respect the recycling program and the landowners where they are located: Do not leave non-recyclable garbage.
