Sanitary Sewer Flushing

Each year, the Water & Sewer Division conducts flushing of the sanitary sewer system as part of our preventive maintenance program.

This work involves flushing and vacuuming the sanitary sewer system using pressurized water from one of our flushing truck units. While every care is taken, there is a possibility that air generated from this flushing can migrate into customers’ sanitary sewer service lines, causing water to  be expelled from fixtures such as toilet bowls. Should this occur, residents are asked to contact Service Fredericton at 460-2020 so that field crews can adjust the flushing pressures in order to prevent this from reoccurring. Residents can also mitigate this risk by ensuring that their toilets are flushed after each use, and to keep the cover of the toilet down.
