Water & Wastewater

Valuing water through conservation and proper treatment.

Our History

Learn about how our water & wastewater practices have continually improved over time by viewing our timeline.

Current Initiatives

The City of Fredericton’s Water & Sewer Utility treats more than 21 million litres of wastewater from homes and businesses each day. Barker’s Street Treatment Facility treats 95% of the wastewater and also generates approximately 5,000 tonnes of biosolids per year, which are then composted and re-used in manufactured topsoil.

Our facilities meet or exceed Environment Canada and the NB Department of Environment effluent treatment standards. The water utility continues to upgrade infrastructure to decrease leaks in the system in addition to educating consumers about water conservation.

What You Can Do

Check out our water conservation tips and be able to identify harmful products that should not be flushed or emptied into sinks or storm drains.
