
An 18-year-old woman from Fredericton, N.B. has been charged with multiple offenses, following an incident that occurred in Fredericton, N.B. on Saturday, September 18, 2021.
Around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday evening, the Fredericton Police Street Crimes Unit was in the Uptown area, following up on a stolen vehicle investigation.
The vehicle was located in the parking lot of a business on Prospect Street and officers were able to identify the lone female occupant.
While police officers attempted to arrest the woman for possession of the stolen vehicle, she attempted to flee and rammed an unmarked police car. One police officer sustained minor injuries during the arrest.
The vehicle was searched, and a loaded firearm and a quantity suspected illicit drugs were seized.
On September 19, 2021, Shawna Jane Blair, appeared in front of a judge via telephone remand, and was held in custody on a single charge of possession of stolen property over $5,000. In addition, the following 14 charges have also been laid in connection with the same incident:
- assault on a peace officer with a weapon
- flight from peace officer
- carrying a concealed weapon
- possession of a prohibited weapon without a valid license
- possession of a loaded prohibited firearm without a valid license
- operating a motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited firearm inside
- possession of a weapon dangerous to the public (bear spray)
- CDSA - possession of CDSA (schedule I) – crystal methamphetamine
- Fail to comply with a probation order (x2)
- Possession of identity documents (x4)
Ms. Blair was held in custody and will appear in court again on September 24, 2021.
