A 29-year old Fredericton man appeared in court today to face charges in connection to a midday shooting incident that occurred yesterday in the Marysville area of Fredericton, N.B.
Skylar Troy Robert Michaud has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, breach of a firearms prohibition order and breach of probation. Further charges are expected, and he will appear in court again on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 1:30 p.m.
At 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, Fredericton Police responded to the 400-block of Canada Street, for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, police located two adult male victims, who had been shot, and the suspect had fled the scene. Both males were seen by Ambulance New Brunswick and were transported to the hospital for further treatment. Their injuries are non-life threatening.
Specialized services, including the Police Service Dog, Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Forensic Identification were called to assist Patrols in locating the suspect. At approximately 1:30 p.m., the suspect was arrested without incident by ERT.
We do not believe the shooting to be random. The Major Crime Team is currently leading the investigation.
We are pleased to report that no additional injuries were incurred during the incident. We appreciate the cooperation of the neighbourhood residents as well as motorists who stayed clear of the area throughout the initial call for service.
