Five arrested in connection with recent vehicle thefts and other charges

On Thursday April 25, 2024, Fredericton Police Force’s Street and Drug Crimes unit, along with patrols,  arrested five individuals in connection with ongoing investigations into several stolen vehicle files. 

With the assistance of the West District New Brunswick RCMP, RCMP Police Dog Services and RCMP Air Services, the suspects were apprehended after fleeing from police and causing major public safety concerns throughout the city. The vehicles were noted travelling in excess of 50 km per hour over the posted speed limit, endangering the lives of other motorists and bystanders, at different locations and on separate occasions in the Fredericton region. 

The investigation involved several individuals, several stolen vehicles, and several files. The vehicle thefts are believed to have been crimes of opportunity, and not related to a larger organized operation. 

The five individuals, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act,  are charged with the following as a result of the arrests made last Thursday: 

1)

  • Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000 S. 355(a)(i) CC
  • Dangerous Operation of Conveyance S. 320.13(1) CC
  • Mischief Endangering Life S. 430(2) CC
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose X2 S. 88(2)(a) CC
  • Obstruction S. 129(a) CC
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order S. 145(5)(a) CC
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence S. 137 YCJA

2)  

  • Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000 S. 355(a)(i) CC
  • Obstruction S. 129(a) CC
  • Resist Arrest- S. 129(d)- Criminal Code
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon- S. 90(2)(d)- CC
  • Possession of a Schedule I (methamphetamine) Substance- S. 4(1)- CDSA
  • Fail to Comply with Youth Probation Order- S. 137- YCJA

3)    

  • Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000 S. 355(a)(i) CC
  • Obstruction S. 129(a) CC

4)  

  • Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000 S. 355(a)(i) CC

Two of the youth were held in custody until a further court date, while three were released on conditions.
