The Fredericton Police Force apprehended seven impaired drivers during an eight-hour period of operations on March 8-9, 2025. This outcome was the result of officers conducting traffic stops and responding to tips from vigilant citizens about suspected impaired drivers.
Police apprehended four impaired drivers, three of whom refused to provide breathalyzer samples and were subsequently charged with refusal. Additionally, two drivers received 7-day suspensions for alcohol-related offenses. Patrols apprehended another impaired driver shortly after 6 a.m. on March 9.
The successful operation brings the total number of impaired driving charges in Fredericton to 26 for 2025, compared to 38 at this time last year. The number of tickets issued for impaired driving offenses has also seen a slight increase, with 11 issued in 2025 compared to 17 in 2024. While the number of impaired driving charges has decreased compared to the same period last year, even one impaired driver is too many.
Police also conducted a traffic checkpoint on Sunday morning, as well as an operation focused on distracted driving later that afternoon. Hundreds of vehicles were checked, resulting in several tickets and warnings being issued for speeding, cell phone, and other violations.
The Fredericton Police Force urges all citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspected impaired drivers. The public’s cooperation is crucial in keeping our roads safe and directly contributed to some of the arrests made Saturday evening.
If you see a potential impaired driver, please take the following steps to report them:
• Call 911 (If driving, pull over safely first).
• Provide your location.
• Describe the vehicle:
- License plate number.
- Color.
- Make and model.
• State the vehicle's direction of travel.
• Describe the driver.
As always, we thank the public for their ongoing support and cooperation.
