Fredericton Police Force Reminds Public of Publication Ban on File 2024-22336

The Fredericton Police Force wishes to remind the public and all media outlets of the publication ban in place regarding Fredericton Police Force File 2024-22336, the manslaughter investigation that occurred at the Tannery in September 2024. 

Violating the publication ban can undermine the integrity of the legal process and the principles of justice, potentially affecting the outcome of the case. This ban also protects the identities of the three youths charged in this matter, as per Section 110(1) of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. 

This publication ban applies to all individuals, organizations, and entities, including but not limited to:

  • Journalists and media professionals
  • Social media users
  • Bloggers and online content creators
  • Community members

The ban covers all forms of media, including:

  • Digital media (websites, social media platforms, blogs)
  • Print media (newspapers, magazines)
  • Broadcast media (television, radio)
  • Any other medium that can disseminate information to the public

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, it is prohibited to publish the identity of, or any information that may lead to the identity of, a young person charged with an offence. 

Violating this section can result in severe legal consequences, including:

  • A maximum of 2 years of incarceration
  • Potential fines and other legal penalties

The Fredericton Police Force urges everyone to comply with this publication ban to ensure the integrity of the legal process.
