Fredericton Transit is offering free bus service in celebration of national Clean Air Day on Wednesday, June 7. On that day, residents will be treated with free rides between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m.
On Clean Air Day, residents are encouraged to take public transit, cycle or walk throughout the day to decrease air pollution. This is the first time Fredericton Transit has offered free service on Clean Air Day to encourage more residents to get on board with the public transit system.
“We are happy to waive bus fares on Clean Air Day to support a greener climate, while also encouraging more Frederictonians to sample our City’s transit system,” said Charlene Sharpe, manager of Fredericton Transit. “Public transit is a greener choice for your daily commute and waiving bus fares on Clean Air Day helps us to tell that story to the greater Fredericton community.”
The City of Fredericton is aiming to raise awareness about air quality, climate change and encouraging residents to decrease their individual greenhouse gas emissions.
“Our planet is in critical need of climate action and the City of Fredericton is doing what it can to prepare for and reduce the impacts of climate change,” said Mayor Kate Rogers. “Let’s celebrate the air we breathe by leaving our vehicles at home and taking public transit on Clean Air Day.”
