On Thursday, May 18th, 2023 members of the Fredericton Police Force identified a male suspect driving a stolen vehicle with a female passenger, which then fled to the Durham Bridge area in RCMP jurisdiction. Working together, the FPF and RCMP tracked the suspects who attempted to flee on foot; after a short foot chase the suspects were taken into custody.

Upon search of the stolen vehicle driven by the suspect, several rifles and shotguns were seized.

38-year-old, Garnett VROOM, from Fredericton, N.B. was held in custody, attending court on May 19, 2023.

Garnett VROOM has been charged with:

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (over $5000)- S. 355(a)(i) CC Pointing a Firearm- S. 87(2)(a) CC
Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited Firearm in Motor Vehicle- S. 94(2)(a) CC Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm- S. 95(2)(a) CC Unauthorized Poss. of a Firearm- S. 91(3)(a) CC
Possession of a Prohibited/Restricted Weapon Knowing it's Poss. is Unauthorized- S. 92(3) CC
Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose- S. 88(2)(a) CC
Careless Storage of a Firearm- S. 86(3)(a) CC
Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered with- S. 108(2)(a) CC
Possession Firearms Contrary to Order- S.117.01(3)(a) CC
Flight- S. 320.17 CC
Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle- S. 320.13(1) CC
Resist Arrest- S. 129(a) CC
Possession of Identity Documents- S. 56.1(4)(a) CC
Fail to Comply with Release Order- S. 145(5)(a) CC

Vroom is remanded into custody with his next court date scheduled for June 5, 2023.

A 29-year-old female has also been charged with:

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (over $5000)- S. 355(a)(i) CC
Unauthorized Poss. of a Prohibited Weapon in a Motor Vehicle- S. 94(2)(a) CC
Possession of Identity Documents- S. 56.1(4)(a) CC

She was released with promise to attend court at a later date.
