The Fredericton Police Force’s General Investigations Unit, assisted by Patrols and the Community Engagement Unit, has arrested and charged Shayne Lucas Springall, 35, of the Fredericton area, following multiple vandalism incidents in and around the downtown core.

The incidents involved damage to Odell Park Lodge, St. Dunstan’s Church and the Crowne Plaza (Sweat Club fitness facility).

Springall is charged with multiple counts of mischief related to these incidents and was remanded in custody.  Further charges are expected.

The Fredericton Police Force acknowledges community concerns surrounding recent downtown vandalism incidents and continues working with the City on measures identified through the Community Safety Task Force, including increased patrols and targeted enforcement.

While these steps are key to improving safety and visibility, both the City and the Police Force recognize that addressing the root causes of crime will require sustained collaboration, long-term solutions, and continued effort beyond enforcement and municipal actions alone.

Police encourage the public to report suspicious activity or criminal behaviour as soon as it occurs. Prompt reporting plays a critical role in helping officers respond quickly and identify those responsible.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police as soon as possible. In an emergency, call 911, for non-emergency matters, contact the Fredericton Police Force at 506 460 2300. Crimes can also be reported online through the City of Fredericton’s Report a Crime tool,  and anonymous tips may be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1 800 222 8477.

The Fredericton Police Force thanks the public and downtown community for their cooperation.
