The DECH

The Dr. Everett Chalmers Region Hospital, locally known as the DECH, provides undergraduate and graduate education experience for approximately 20 health disciplines and is a certified partner of the Dalhousie University Family Medicine program and the University of New Brunswick nursing program, and houses the Veterans Health Unit.

A $250 million project to provide a state-of-the-art environment for maternal and newborn, intensive care, surgical care, day surgery, ambulatory procedures, phlebotomy, and health records service is underway and is expected to be finished by March 2024.

The DECH through the Horizon Health Network engages in significant research such as:

Stan Cassidy Rehabilitation Centre

The Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation is a specialty, tertiary facility equipped and staffed to treat the most complex neurological conditions. These conditions include stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, and neuromuscular disorders such as muscular dystrophy, ALS and cerebral palsy. The Centre also provides treatment for the most complex forms of autism spectrum disorder.

Teams of rehabilitation specialists work together with patients to make sure that all aspects of a patient’s needs are understood and addressed. The many professional disciplines collaborate daily to provide client- and family-centered treatment programs. They are part of the larger team of health service providers, and work closely with community, hospital based and social services so that the full range of benefits are available to patients. Also, since many of the patients are children, we work closely with the school systems.

Institute of Biomedical Engineering

The Institute of Biomedical Engineering is a research institute within the University of New Brunswick. Founded in 1965, the Institute has evolved to become a world renowned, multi-disciplinary research unit involved in a broad spectrum of activities.

In addition to offering graduate studies, the Institute specializes in research such as adaptive rehabilitation, pattern recognition, exoskeleton, outcome measures and more. The Institute also offers a Limb Clinic and a Centre of Adaptive Rehabilitation Engineering, known as the CARE Centre.

Oromocto Public Hospital

This community hospital serves the residents of the town of Oromocto and surrounding communities including CFB Gagetown, Canada’s second largest military training base.

The hospital provides inpatient Family Practice, Palliative Care, Rehabilitation and has a Transitional Care Unit as well as a thriving ambulatory Surgical Centre, Mammography Screening Program and Emergency Department.

New Brunswick Health Research Foundation

Fredericton is home to the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation( NBHRF), which focused on growing and expanding New Brunswick's health research. The NBHRF has partnerships with many funding agencies and offers a number of different grants for researchers.

New Brunswick Medical Society

The New Brunswick Medical Society is also headquartered in Fredericton and its mission is to advance the interests of physicians and improve the health care system in New Brunswick for the benefit of patients.
