The Fredericton Police Force is reporting a recent increase in the use of counterfeit Canadian $100 bills at local businesses in Fredericton. In the past few weeks, police have seen close to 20 cases reported.
Police are reminding businesses and the public to check $100 bills before accepting them.
• Some counterfeit bills may display the words “prop money” on the silver vertical strip.
• In other cases, the strip may peel off, which should not happen on a genuine bill.
• Identical serial numbers on more than one bill is also a sign of counterfeit cash.
Anyone who believes they have received counterfeit money is asked not to use it and to contact the Fredericton Police Force at 506 460 2300. Tips can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1 800 222 8477 or online at Report a Crime | City of Fredericton
