New council to be sworn in on June 1

Fredericton residents have elected a new mayor and council following the May 11 municipal election. 

The incoming city council includes Steve Hicks, former city councillor as mayor-elect, eight new councillors and four returning councillors, who will serve until May 2030.  

This election marks the first time an equal number of men and women have been elected to serve as ward councillors.  

The current mayor and council will remain in office until the swearing-in ceremony at City Hall on June 1. The final regular meeting of the current council will be held on May 19, 2026.  

“Thank you to everyone who put their name forward to serve the City of Fredericton and to those who participated in the municipal election through voting” said Jennifer Lawson, City Clerk. “The city looks forward to welcoming the newly elected mayor and council and supporting them as they begin their term in the coming weeks.”  

Following the swearing in ceremony on June 1, the deputy mayor and committee appointments will be announced on June 8.

  • Ward 4: Jocelyn Pike (incumbent)
  • Ward 5: Angela Hicks
  • Ward 6: P. Blair Sullivan
  • Ward 7: Josh Hambrook
  • Ward 8: Greg Ericson (incumbent, acclaimed)
  • Ward 9: Ruth Breen (incumbent)
  • Ward 10: Kelly Murray
  • Ward 11: Jason LeJeune (incumbent)  
  • Ward 12: Janet E. Moser
