During a special meeting held in Council Chambers at City Hall, Fredericton’s new City Council was sworn into office.
The new City council will include Mayor Steve Hicks, eight new councilors and four returning councillors, who will serve until May 2030.
Mayor Hicks was first elected as a City Councillor in May 2008 and went on to serve four terms on Council. During his 18 years on Council, he chaired and was a member of multiple committees and served as Deputy Mayor for the City of Fredericton.
“It is an honour to have been elected Mayor of Fredericton, and I look forward to working with City Council to serve our residents,” said Hicks. “Together, we are committed to listening, collaborating, and making informed decisions that will shape Fredericton’s future over the next four years as we work to build a safe, inclusive, and affordable community for all.”
The eight new City Councillors include:
- Kate Hunter, Ward 1 (Clements/Sunset)
- Ryan Gregg, Ward 2 (McLeod/Brookside)
- Colin Ebbett, Ward 3 (Nashwaaksis North)
- Angela Hicks, Ward 5 (Marysville)
- Blair Sullivan, Ward 6 (South Devon/Barker’s Point/Lower St. Mary’s)
- Josh Hambrook, Ward 7 (Southwood Park/Lincoln)
- Kelly Murray, Ward 10 (West Downtown & Plat/Sunshine Gardens)
- Janet Moser, Ward 12 (Silverwood/Garden Creek)
The following four City Councillors are returning:

- Greg Ericson, Ward 8 (Skyline Acres)
- Ruth Breen, Ward 9 (Bishop Drive/Odell Park)
- Jason LeJeune, Ward 11 (East Downtown & Plat/UNB)
This election marks the first time an equal number of men and women have been elected to serve as ward councillors.
During the special Council meeting, the program featured the marching in of Council-Elect, a performance by the Muskrat Singers, a smudging ceremony led by Elder Imelda Perley, the Election Declaration by the City Clerk, and the swearing in where members of the new council took their Oath of Office.
The meeting was livestreamed and is available to be viewed on the city’s website.
