Deadline to apply extended until December 30
Are you a student between the ages of 14-19? Do you want to be a voice for youth in your community and advocate on issues important to you? The City of Fredericton is seeking youth members to serve on a newly established Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). The deadline to apply for the committee has been extended to December 30, 2022.
Youth from all backgrounds are encouraged to consider joining the Youth Advisory Committee and to bring their knowledge and concerns to the table. A key part of this effort will be to create opportunities for youth to experience local government, the work of the City and provide feedback.
Formation of the committee is part of the City’s commitment to the UNESCO Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities, which is intended to engage youth as a key component of building an inclusive community. The City is committed to supporting the following three pillars of youth engagement through the committee:
- Consultation on matters of importance, such as considering the merits of City projects and devising a formal written opinion.
- Exposure to the reality of municipal politics, such as attending open Council meetings and sharing with individual councillors a youth perspective.
- Exposure to working for the City of Fredericton, such as through job shadowing and mentoring.
Interested youth should send an email outlining their interest in serving on a such a committee, as well as their contact information to the Office of the City Clerk, 397 Queen Street, Fredericton, NB E3B 1B5 or cityclerk@fredericton.ca. The deadline to apply is 4:30 pm on Friday, December 30, 2022.
