Renovations to update Fredericton’s popular weekend market recently wrapped up.
The renovation project focused on improving accessibility, enhancing energy efficiency and renewing critical infrastructure to support improved market operations, while preserving the Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market’s historic charm.
"The market is an iconic fixture of our city and a weekend tradition for Fredericton residents and visitors alike," said Buffy Wasson, Manager of the Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market. "These upgrades will help ensure the market continues to thrive and remain a cherished gathering place for generations to come."
The phased project took just over a year to complete to allow the market to remain open and minimize impacts on vendors. Construction was completed in early fall 2026.
Accessibility improvements included upgrades to all main entrances, the installation of automatic door operators, making washrooms fully accessible, the removal of the raised stage, and updated furnishings in the accessible seating area.
Energy efficiency enhancements included the replacement of existing lighting with LED fixtures and the installation of a solar array to help reduce utility costs.
Infrastructure and operational improvements included the replacement of a portion of the roof, renewal of washroom infrastructure, and the addition of new storage space.
This project was made possible thanks to generous support from the Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and the Government of New Brunswick, through the Regional Development Corporation, who made a combined investment of $996,401.
An additional 33 thousand dollars in funding from NB Power was made available as part of the energy efficiency upgrades.
The total project cost was $1.58 million.
Located in downtown Fredericton, the Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market hosts more than 200 vendors each Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
