It is with heavy hearts that the Fredericton Police Force shares the passing of retired Police Service Dog (PSD) Endzo, just one month shy of his 14th birthday.

Endzo began his career with the Fredericton Police Force in 2014, proudly serving alongside his handler, now-retired Constable Alli Yerxa, until his retirement in 2019. Following five years of dedicated service, Endzo embraced a slower pace of life off-duty with Alli, approaching each day with the same steady spirit, quiet confidence, and unwavering devotion that defined his years of service.

Throughout his career, Endzo played an important role in keeping our community safe, assisting officers in locating missing persons, tracking fleeing suspects, and locating crime scene evidence.

Retired Cst. Yerxa recalled several memorable moments from their time working together, including a particularly cold winter day when Endzo was called upon to locate an elderly person living with dementia who had been missing for hours. Within just 20 minutes of beginning the track, Endzo successfully located the individual, who was suffering from hypothermia. His quick work helped bring a potentially tragic situation to a safe conclusion.

On another occasion, Endzo was called to assist after a driver fled the scene of a hit-and-run collision. Following an extensive track through a northside neighbourhood, Endzo located the suspect hiding underneath a vehicle.

These are just two examples of the many contributions Endzo made throughout his career. His dedication, instincts, and his love of police work made him a valued member of the Fredericton Police Force.
Police service dogs are more than just working partners. They are trusted companions, loyal protectors, and an important part of our policing family.

Away from his working years, Endzo embraced retirement to the fullest, spending his days on neighbourhood walks, meeting friends old and new, enjoying early morning sunrises, welcoming the season's first snowfall, cooling off during summer in his pool, and never passing up the opportunity for a treat.  He was a well-loved and trusted companion whose presence brought joy to everyone who knew him.

Endzo continued to serve the K9 community, representing the enduring impact of police service dogs through his involvement with Ned's Wish, a Canadian charitable organization that supports retired police, military, and first responder service dogs.

The Fredericton Police Force extends its sincere condolences to retired Cst. Yerxa on the loss of Endzo. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation for the years of service Endzo gave to our organization and the citizens of Fredericton.

Thank you for your service, Endzo. Your final shift is complete. Rest easy, good boy.
