To ensure equitable access and fair use of Fredericton’s recreation facilities, participants of certain activities must apply for an annual Rec Card. The card costs nothing for Fredericton and partner community residents, while participants from other communities can obtain a card for a fee.
Do I (or a person in my care) need a Rec Card?
Rec Cards are required for all children, youth, and adults participating in certain activities. Consult the following table to determine whether your activity requires a card.

How much does a Rec Card cost?
The cost of a Rec Card depends on where you live and the type of recreation facility your activity uses.
If you live inside the Recreation Service Agreement Area, the card costs nothing as its covered by your property taxes.
If you live outside the agreement area, the cost of the card depends on the type of facility used. Fees, effective April 1, 2018, are as follows:
- Indoor Rink Activities: $906.73/year (taxes included)
- Sports Field and Baseball Diamond Activities: $19.55/year (taxes included)
Please note that Rec Card fees for indoor rink, sports field, and baseball diamond activities must be paid before registering for the activity.

Am I inside the Recreation Service Agreement Area?
To find out if you’re inside the agreement area:
- Navigate to the Recreation Service Agreement Area Map.
- Enter your civic address into ‘User Search’.
- Select your address from the list.
- The map will center on your property. If it’s within the shaded region, you are inside the agreement area.
How do I apply for a Rec Card?
To apply for the annual Rec Card:
- Navigate to the registration website.
- If you are inside the Recreation Service Agreement Area, select ‘2025 Rec Card (Residents) Application’ from the list. If you are outside the agreement area, select either ‘2025 Rec Card: Fields and Ball Diamonds (Non-Residents)’ or ‘2025 Rec Card: Indoor Rinks (Non-Residents)’ depending on which facility your activity uses.
- Review the description and select ‘Add’.
- If this is your first time using the registration website, select ‘Sign up’, otherwise enter your login credentials.
- Add the person who will receive the card, either yourself or a person in your care, to the application and select ‘Checkout’.
- Provide the personal information requested and ensure that your address is up to date.
- If you are inside the agreement area, upload your valid identification documentation. If you are outside the agreement area, pay the card fee.
- Submit your application.
- If you are inside the agreement area, you will receive an email confirming that your application was received. The City of Fredericton will verify your identification documentation and send your digital Rec Card within 1-2 business days if approved. If you are outside the agreement area, you will receive your digital Rec Card after your payment is processed.
Rec Card Activity Discounts
Rec Card holders (residents only) receive discounts for the following recreation activities:
- Outdoor Pool Swim Lessons: $11.00 off per session
- Northside Youth Centre Camps: $17.00 off per week
To receive the discount, ensure the participant's registration is linked to an active Rec Card.
