The City of Fredericton’s 2026 grant program to support non-profit organizations and other community partners to make Fredericton a more inclusive, vibrant, and livable community is now open.

Interested applicants can apply under four different funding categories; Community Funding Grants, Strategic Partner Capital Grants, Climate Change Action Grants, and the City’s long-standing Arts, Culture and Heritage Funding Program. Grants being provided for 2026 are valued at just over $780,000.

The grants program encourages growth and stability of non-profit groups and organizations, while helping them to deliver programs and services that benefit city residents and visitors.

Eligible organizations and applicants may apply for multiple grants, provided they meet the requirements and criteria for each funding stream.

About the City’s Grants:

Community Funding Grants encourage the growth and stability of non-profit organizations in the city whose purpose and activities align to achieve the outcomes of a more livable and economically viable community. A total of $336,650 is available for 2026. The grant must be applied to a specific program or service or used as capital funding for the construction of facilities or the purchase of equipment that will benefit the community at large.

Strategic Partner Capital Grants are intended to encourage the growth and stability of strong, sustainable non-profit organizations whose purpose and services fit within the City’s municipal mandate. A total of $307,200 is available for 2026, from which City Council has already committed $50,000 in funding to the Beaverbrook Art Gallery Capital Campaign. Funding will support significant physical infrastructure capital projects, which must align with the City’s Municipal Plan and program results areas.

The Arts, Culture and Heritage Funding Program is designed to encourage new projects or activities in the creative arts, culture and heritage sectors through the provision of small grants to eligible organizations. A total of $106,100 is available for 2026. There are three areas of support available under this program:

  • Festivals, major events and series grants – financial assistance for the presentation of multi-day festivals, major events or series related to the creative arts, culture or heritage.
  • Project grants – financial assistance for projects and activities related to the creative arts, culture or heritage.
  • Community asset grant – one-time financial assistance amounting to no more than 75% of the cost of purchase or repair of specialized equipment or infrastructure, to become a community asset shared among three or more eligible organizations.

Climate Change Action Grants support non-profit organizations in carrying out projects, programs, or activities that align with actions in the City’s Community Energy and Emissions Plan or Climate Change Adaptation Plan. A total of $31,850 is available under this program. Eligible initiatives should fall under one of the following categories:

  • Energy efficiency or energy source shift in buildings initiatives
  • Transportation mode shift (active transportation, public transit, e-mobility) initiatives
  • Waste reduction or circular economy initiatives
  • Climate change adaptation – education & outreach initiatives
  • Climate change adaptation – capital project

The amount allocated for each funding stream has been adjusted for inflation.

The deadline to apply for all four grant pools is Friday, October 10, 2025 at 4:30 pm. Recommendations related to the grants will be considered during the City’s 2026 Budget process.
