The City of Fredericton is looking for interested city residents to fill two (2) vacancies on the Mayor’s Working Committee on Community/Post-Secondary Relations as a representative of Ward 8 and 10.
The Working Committee acts in an advisory capacity to Council’s Development Committee and its mandate is to enhance communication between the City of Fredericton, the University of New Brunswick, St. Thomas University, the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design, the New Brunswick Community College, and the Maritime College of Forest Technology with the purpose of generating greater opportunities for the community as a whole.
The Working Committee focusses on issues of common interest or concern to the community and the publicly-funded post-secondary institutions in the City. The Working Committee serves as an advisory group, with a view to finding solutions to issues such as off-campus student housing, transportation, safety, cultural opportunities, environmental sustainability, and student retention, among other topics.
The Committee is comprised of approximately 40 members, including four representatives for the wards nearest the university campus, who are appointed for two-year terms, subject to possible re-appointment. The meetings are held, virtually or in person, three or four times per year, on a need basis.
The composition of the committee must reflect the gender and linguistic representation, as well as the cultural and geographic diversity of the City of Fredericton.
This is a volunteer position and, as such, no remuneration is provided.
Interested candidates who are residents of Wards 8 and 10 are asked to submit a one-page summary of their background, skills and a brief statement of their belief in the importance of communication between the community and post-secondary institutions in the city to the undersigned on or before Friday, October 17, 2025.
