The City of Fredericton has officially launched its new On-Demand Transit service for Routes 18 and 20. This flexible transit option replaces traditional fixed-route service with a more responsive system, designed to better serve areas with lower ridership while adding more service hours and still offering reliable access to the City’s larger transit network.

This transition to on-demand service reflects feedback received from the 2024 public engagement sessions and aligns with recommendations from the City’s Transit Strategic Plan. It also supports the City’s long-term goals of delivering modern and sustainable public transportation, in line with industry best practices for transit in low-demand areas.

“The introduction of on-demand service will increase flexibility and efficiency within our transit system,” said Coun. Bruce Grandy, Chair of the City’s Mobility Committee. “This allows us to better use our resources while still ensuring access to public transit for those who rely on it.”

Riders can now request a trip using the Fredericton Transit app or by calling 506-460-2212. Pick-up and drop-off points will remain at the existing bus stops along Routes 18 and 20. The expanded service operates Monday to Friday, from 6:30 am to 10:30 am and from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Key features of the new On-Demand Transit service include:
•    Booking via app or phone, same day or up to seven days in advance
•    No fixed route or schedule, transit comes to you
•    No changes to fare, transfer, and payment methods
•    Transfer options to other routes, including Kings Place Mall
