The Fredericton police force, in partnership with MADD Fredericton, has launched its annual “Impaired Driver Caught Here” campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and encourage public vigilance on road safety.

City-wide signs mark locations where impaired drivers have been apprehended—busy streets, neighbourhoods and parking lots. The signs serve as a stark reminder of the dangers and emphasize the importance of calling 911 if impaired driving is suspected.

“As police officers and emergency responders, we see the tragic toll impaired driving takes on individuals, families and communities,” said Cst. Ben Hughes, FPF’s MADD liaison and president of MADD's Fredericton chapter.  “It remains one of the top causes of collisions in Canada and a serious public safety risk.  Despite education efforts, there is no excuse for driving impaired—an alternative always exists.”

To date in 2025, Fredericton police have laid 129 impaired driving charges and issued 62 suspensions and tickets. That compares with 173 charges and 75 suspensions or warnings in 2024, underscoring the continued prevalence of this preventable crime.

With continued education, public awareness and vigilance, impaired driving can be significantly reduced. The Fredericton police urge all residents to remain alert, report suspected impaired drivers and help protect lives on our roads.
