Prospect and Patience Lane Roundabout

Project Type:Construction Projects
Project Subtype:Neighborhood Projects

The Prospect and Patience Lane Roundabout project involves the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Prospect Street and Patience Lane. This roundabout will enhance traffic flow and improve safety at the intersection, which is currently congested and difficult to navigate. The roundabout will also connect to the ongoing development off Golf Club Road, providing better access for both current and future residents. In addition, a multi-use trail will be created, linking High Point Ridge to Golf Club Road, enhancing pedestrian and cycling connectivity in the area.

What to Expect:

Traffic Impacts:

  • Detours will be in place while the roundabout is under construction. See detour map.
  • Access to Patience Lane and Prospect Street may be impacted at times during the construction period.

Public Transit Impacts:

  • Bus stops for the Patience Lane/Rainsford Lane area may be relocated temporarily during construction.

Pedestrian Access:

  • The David Kelly Trail will be closed intermittently during the construction phase. Alternative routes will be provided, but pedestrians should anticipate some disruptions.

What is Being Accomplished?

  • Construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Prospect Street and Patience Lane. This roundabout will replace the current intersection, which can be a hazardous and congested area for both vehicles and pedestrians. The roundabout will help calm traffic, improve flow, and reduce potential accidents.
  • Future connection to Golf Club Road development: The roundabout is a key part of the city's long-term development plans, facilitating the connection between the new development off Golf Club Road and existing residential areas.
  • Construction of a multi-use trail to connect High Point Ridge to Golf Club Road, offering better access to recreational activities and improved transportation options for pedestrians and cyclists. This will also integrate with the city's vision for a more connected and accessible community.

The Benefits:

  • Improved intersection safety at Prospect and Patience.
  • Enhanced connectivity for residents of High Point Ridge with better access to Golf Club Road and surrounding areas.
  • Future trail connections that provide easy pedestrian and cycling access to new developments and recreation areas.

Additional Upgrades:

  • No additional changes planned beyond the construction of the roundabout and trail.

Flood Protection:

  • This project does not directly address flood mitigation.

Project Timing & Future Work:

Why is this project being undertaken now?

  • The roundabout is necessary to support future development off golf club road, ensuring better traffic flow and access for new residents.
  • The addition of a multi-use trail will enhance community mobility and support the city’s commitment to improving active transportation networks.

Will there be more construction in the future?

  • No further construction on these roads is expected once the roundabout and trail are completed.

Project Funding

Funded by the City of Fredericton’s General Capital Budget.

Are Any Trees Being Removed?

Yes, some trees will need to be removed to accommodate the roundabout and multi-use trail construction.

How Does This Fit Into Long-Term Planning?

The roundabout and multi-use trail are integral to the city’s growth strategy, supporting the ongoing development on Golf Club Road and improving overall connectivity for future residents. This project aligns with long-term infrastructure planning aimed at improving traffic management and promoting active transportation.
