The Westwood Drive infrastructure upgrades project will include the renewal of water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer mains on Westwood Drive from Fairview to Hummingbird. Also included will be new curbing and asphalt. 

What to Expect:

Traffic Impacts:

Westwood Drive is expected to be closed to through traffic for a period of 8 weeks. Local traffic will be accommodated. 

Public Transit Impacts:

Public Transit is not expected to be affected. 

Pedestrian Impacts:

This project will have a localized impact on pedestrian traffic.

The Benefits:

Residents will notice a brand-new street with improved infrastructure, ensuring a smoother and safer roadway. 

Additional Upgrades:

This project will include trail improvements and new connections, enhancing pedestrian and cycling access in the area. 

Flood Protection:

The upgraded stormwater system will improve drainage, reducing the risk of flooding and water pooling on the roadway.

Why is This Project Being Undertaken Now?

  • Renewal projects have been ongoing in the Silverwood Subdivision for the last several years. This project coincides with development on Westwood, minimizing future disruptions for residents while ensuring modern infrastructure. The developer will be paying for their portion of the work. 

Will There Be More Construction on These Roads in the Coming Years?

  • There will continue to be work in the Silverwood Subdivision until all streets are renewed. 

Project Funding:

This project will be partially funded through the IBA fund. 

Are Any Trees Being Removed?

It is not anticipated that any trees will be removed for this project. 

How Does This Fit Into Long-Term Planning?

This project is a key part of Fredericton’s long-term financial plan and asset management strategy. By renewing the aging water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer mains, the upgrades will reduce the city's infrastructure deficit while ensuring a more resilient and modern roadway.
