The City’s Artist in Residence Program is back for its sixth summer at Killarney Lake Park and the Fredericton Botanic Garden at Odell Park.
The program, which runs between July 2 and Aug. 23, provides a unique opportunity for artists to work on creative projects in Fredericton’s natural surroundings, while also engaging with residents and visitors about their work and creative process. Those interested can follow the artist’s social media for updates on their creative journey and to learn about specific interactive opportunities such as artist talks, demos, and workshops.
The following artists will be shaping their work at Killarney Lake Park:
- Sara Griffin, a multidisciplinary visual artist with a diverse background in painting, photography, and sculpture. Sara plans to create 15 paintings and encourage the public to collaborate on a communal painting.
- Charles Harding, a sound artist and composer aims to emphasize ecological awareness through electroacoustic compositions and audiovisual pieces.
- Kaitlin Hoyt, a mixed-media artist plans to create surreal flora-fauna hybrids.
- The Fibre Art Network (FAN) collective will provide demonstrations and workshops on weaving, quilting, and felting.
Meanwhile, these artists will be creating new work at the Botanic Garden in Odell Park:
- Pat Whipple, a mixed-media artist who will create small rug hooked pieces created on burlap or linen using yarn, wool strips, and found materials. For those interested she will provide practice pieces for guests to try.
- Cat Candow will create a piece of bobbin lace and practice lace cushion with the public.
- Iryna Shevchenko is a mixed media artist and practices Vytynankas, the Ukrainian art of paper cutting. She will be providing workshops.
