The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is Wednesday, September 30. The City of Fredericton is committed to strengthening relationships with Indigenous Peoples and recognizes that public commemoration of the tragic and painful history, as well as the ongoing impacts of residential schools, is a vital component of the Reconciliation process.
We encourage you to observe the day by wearing orange, attending an event, learning more about the history and culture of Indigenous Peoples, and being considerate of Indigenous communities who are reflecting on their history.
Opportunities to participate include:
Wolastoq Grand Council invites you to a Sunrise Ceremony at Officers’ Square from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The ceremony will include fire, chanting and drumming.
Under One Sky will be hosting Psi-te Npomawsuwinuwok (All My People) from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Officers’ Square. This community gathering will include dance, food, music and vendors. All are welcome to attend as we honor truth and advance reconciliation.
In addition, the City reminds the public of the following hours of operation for Truth and Reconciliation Day on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
- City Hall and other administrative offices will be closed.
- Regular garbage and recycling collection will occur. Routine schedules may vary, and residents are asked to place containers curbside by 7 a.m.
- Fredericton Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule with one-hour service.
- The Beek Court Municipal Soil Management Facility is open on Wednesday, September 30.
- The Fredericton Senior Centre will be closed.
- The Nashwaaksis Field House will be closed.
- The Fredericton Indoor Pool will remain open during their usual operating hours. Extended public swim at the Fredericton Indoor Pool will take place from 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
- Rinks are open for Public Skates at the Willie O’Ree Arena from 12-1pm, and at the Grant Harvey Arena from 12-1pm & at Lady Beaverbrook Rink from 3:30-4:30pm.
- Walking tracks are open from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
