On Monday, June 1, 2026, shortly after 6 p.m., members of the Fredericton Police Force (FPF) responded to a report of a woman being held against her will by an armed individual in a vehicle.
Police quickly located the vehicle, which fled the area and travelled toward Noonan before stopping on an ATV trail. The woman was safely located, and the male driver fled on foot into a wooded area. No weapon was determined to have been involved.
The FPF’s Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services (K9 Unit), and New Brunswick RCMP conducted a coordinated search of the area. The individual was safely apprehended at approximately 11:00 p.m. and taken into custody.
A 69-year-old man from Astle, N.B., is facing the following charges:
• Flight from a peace officer (Section 320.17, Criminal Code)
• Forcible confinement (Section 279(2)(a), Criminal Code)
• Assault (Section 266(a), Criminal Code)
• Theft under $5,000 (Section 334(b)(ii), Criminal Code)
• Dangerous operation of a conveyance (Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code)
• Driving while suspended (Section 345(1), Motor Vehicle Act)
The Fredericton Police Force thanks the public for its cooperation, as well as the NB RCMP Air Services Helicopter, Remotely Piloted Aircraft Services (Drone), and members of the Keswick detachment for their assistance.
