The City of Fredericton’s popular Artist in Residence Program is back for its eighth summer at the Fredericton Botanic Garden located in Odell Park.
The program, which runs between July 6 and August 28, provides a unique opportunity for artists to work on creative projects in Fredericton’s natural surroundings, while also engaging with residents and visitors about their work and creative process.
“We are delighted to welcome back the City of Fredericton’s Arist in Residence Program to the Botanic Gardens this summer” said Linda Stephenson, Executive Director of the Fredericton Botanic Garden Association. “The gardens lend themselves well to the creative process and we always look forward to seeing the artist's work and engage with garden visitors.”
Meet the four artists who will be creating in the Botanic Garden’s this summer:
- From July 6 to July 17, jewelry artist Stephanie Sirois will be translating observations of the Fredericton Botanic Garden into objects that will function as intimate landscapes that can be worn or held. The public will be invited to share their sensory experience of the landscape to inspire her work.
- From July 20 to July 31, painter and printmaker Hayley Monroe will create oil paintings and linoleum prints, allowing her to consider the visual language of each piece. She is interested in seeing the image pairings that will emerge from her residency.
- From August 3 to August 14, multidisciplinary visual artist Greg Charlton plans to combine graphite, charcoal, and watercolour to create several landscape drawings and paintings of the Fredericton Botanic Garden while being inspired by art history. He will also highlight the resiliency of the trees in the garden through a metaphorical lens while using a combination of linear and atmospheric perspectives.
- From Augst 17 to August 28, visual artist Lisa Robinson’s art is centred around nature and recognizable landscapes. During her process she makes preliminary sketches in pen or pencil, takes photographs, and then paints the subject or landscape using oil or acrylic, with a desire to elicit a memory in the viewer.
Those interested can follow the artist’s social media for updates on their creative journey and to learn about specific interactive opportunities such as artist talks, demos, and workshops.
