Springhill Road

Project Type:Construction Projects
Project Subtype:Neighborhood Projects

The Springhill Road Rebuild project continues the work that began over the last few years. This phase involves excavating the existing roadbed, replacing and upgrading cross-culverts and driveway culverts, placing new aggregates, and laying down new asphalt to ensure a smoother and more durable road surface.

What to Expect:

Traffic Impacts:

  • On-site detours will be provided and monitored by City personnel for the safe passage of motorists through the construction zone.
  • The road will be open to full use after hours daily, whenever possible, with proper signage and warnings to ensure motorists are aware of the ongoing work.

Public Transit Impacts:

  • No impact to public transit.

Pedestrian Access:

  • Pedestrian access will follow the detour plan as outlined above.

What is Being Accomplished?

  • Excavation of the existing roadbed.
  • Replacement and upgrading of cross-culverts and driveway culverts to meet modern drainage standards.
  • Placement of new aggregates and asphalt to create a smoother and more durable road surface.

The Benefits:

  • Improved road condition for a smoother, more reliable driving experience.
  • Longer-lasting road surface compared to patching methods.
  • Enhanced drainage system to manage water flows more efficiently.

Flood Protection:

The existing culverts do not have sufficient capacity to handle current water flows. By increasing their size to match the appropriate drainage area, this work will better control water flow and help mitigate future flood damage.

Project Timing & Future Work:

Why is this project being undertaken now?

  • Asset management priorities have made the reconstruction of Springhill Road a key focus. Patching the road is no longer sufficient to maintain smooth travel, making this rebuild necessary.

Will there be more construction in the future?

  • Possibly, yes. Future construction may be required.

Are Any Trees Being Removed?

During the ditching operations along the roadway, a few trees and bushes from the ditch area might be removed. Any branches that extend too low above the roadway or interfere with the planned improvements will be trimmed as necessary, though such occurrences are expected to be minimal.

How Does This Fit Into Long-Term Planning?

This project is part of the city’s asset management plan, which ensures that roads are rebuilt to last longer and meet current standards.
