The Lincoln Trail Lighting project involves the installation of light standards along the section of the walking trail between University Avenue and the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge. Concrete foundations for the lights were installed in 2024, with the lights and electrical connections to be completed in 2025. 

What to Expect:

Traffic Impacts:

  • On-site detours will be provided and monitored by City personnel to ensure the safe passage of trail users through the construction zone.
  • The trail will return to full use after hours on a daily basis.

Public Transit Impacts:

  • There will be no impact on public transit.

Pedestrian Access:

  • Pedestrian access will be managed via detours. 

What is Being Accomplished?

  • Installation of light standards on the section of the trail between University Avenue and Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge.
  • Completion of electrical connections and lights in 2025. 

The Benefits:

  • Improved visibility at nighttime, offering better safety for those walking after hours, especially those walking alone in the dark.
  • Enhanced safety and overall trail experience for users.
  • Increased trail usage due to improved lighting conditions. 

Additional Upgrades:

  • Signage will be installed at key locations along the trail to improve user navigation. 

Project Timing & Future Work:

Why is this project being undertaken now?

  • This project is a continuation of work that began in Fall of 2024 and was approved by City Council for funding.

Will there be more construction in the future?

  • Yes, there will be additional work on the north side of the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge, with a separate project description form to be completed.

Project Funding:

The project is funded under trail improvement initiatives. 

Are Any Trees Being Removed?

Some branches may be trimmed to prevent interference with the installation of light standards. 

How Does This Fit Into Long-Term Planning?

This project is part of the City of Fredericton's overall trail improvements initiatives aimed at enhancing the trail system for residents and visitors.
