The heritage value of this dwelling is associated with the ownership of John Fowler. The construction of this house reflects the skill of master carpenter, John Fowler, who built this house for his family in 1854.
John Fowler was well-connected within the Fredericton building trade. Mr. Fowler, his son Thomas, and his son-in-law, Charles Moffitt worked with prolific building contractor James Agnew, lending their carpentering skills. The year after John Fowler completed the construction of this house, he and his son Thomas assisted Charles Moffitt build his own house on Charlotte Street. The basic footprint and design of both houses are very similar.
The Fowler family resided in this dwelling for more than three decades.
