Fredericton City  Fredericton Census Metropolitan Area (CMA)

Highlights:

Fredericton was the third fastest in employment growth in Canada (between 2017 and 2024)

On January 2026, Statistics Canada released new population estimates for Fredericton City and the Fredericton Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) over a 12-month period.  Please note that the numbers reported by Statistics Canada and the media do not include the new annexed areas of Fredericton added by Local Governance Reform (LGR); therefore Fredericton’s population figures are under-stated in the Census Profiles.

Fredericton City

Fredericton City’s population within the pre-annexation boundaries on July 1, 2025 increased to 74,655 up 1,629 residents from 12 months previous.  Fredericton continues to exceed the annual population growth forecasted in the City’s Imagine Fredericton Growth Strategy.  
The City estimates that an additional 4,500 people live in the newly annexed areas due to LGR resulting in a current City population of approximately 79,000.

Fredericton Census Metro Area (CMA) 

The population increased to 125,303 in 2025, up 2,803 compared to 2024.
Greater Fredericton admitted 1,700 immigrants in 2025.
Migration from other provinces is has continued to decline from COVID record levels. Fredericton CMA gained 110 residents net from outside New Brunswick but within Canada.
