Request to Appear & Petitions
The City Council and Standing Committees meet on a regular basis. If you wish to present at a meeting, please fill out the form below with your information and details about your presentation. The form, as well as any presentation materials, must be received by the City Clerk before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a week prior to the scheduled meeting. This form does not apply to the rezoning processes under the Community Planning Act.
Once this information is received, the Office of the City Clerk will assist in determining the most appropriate meeting at which to give your presentation (i.e. City Council or a Standing Committee).
Regular City Council meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month, both in-person in the Council Chamber and virtually via Zoom. These meetings commence at 7:30 pm.
Regular Standing Committee meetings are held on Thursdays at 12:00 noon, both in-person in the Council Chamber and virtually via Zoom.
If you are part of a group wishing to address Council on the same matter, the group is encouraged to appoint one or two spokespersons to address Council on behalf of the group. Delegations are given approximately 10-15 minutes to make their presentation.
Delegations will be contacted to confirm the scheduled date and time of their presentation.
Petitions are a way citizens can formally bring a matter to the attention of Fredericton City Council.
A petition is a written request signed by citizens asking for an action from Fredericton City Council. The subject of any petition must be a matter over which Council has the power to act.
Petitions are an alternative to multiple residents writing individual letters to Council as one letter is written and residents sign it to demonstrate support. Anyone who is at least 18 years old and a resident of the City of Fredericton, including businesses and unincorporated associations where the majority of the membership consists of City residents, may petition Council.
Petitioning Council may not always be your first course of action. Some matters which are operational or administrative are sometimes best resolved by appropriate staff with the City of Fredericton.
Petitions must contain the following:
A statement of purpose. This statement of purpose should be repeated at the top of each page.
The signatures of a least two citizens currently residing in the City of Fredericton.
The local addresses of each citizen signing the petition.
The name of a spokesperson (or “principal petitioner”) including their mailing address, street address and telephone number.
Petitions must contain a minimum of two signature to be accepted.
Be in English or in French,
Be addressed to City Council,
Ask City Council to take some action on the subject matter or concern of the petition,
Identify the principal petitioner or spokesperson
Do not attach letters, affidavits or other documents to the petition.
All petitions should be submitted to the Office of the City Clerk (cityclerk@fredericton.ca) or dropped off at City Hall at 397 Queen Street. If the petition is relates to a topic over which the municipality has authority, the City Clerk will include the petition as part of a Regular City Council meeting material.
After a petition has been presented, it is forwarded to the appropriate municipal staff for action.
