Sunday Bus Service has made an official stop in Fredericton.

Sunday Service features a new pilot: the Fredericton Crosstown Route, which travels from Two Nations Crossing on the north side to the Corbett Centre on the south side, with connections to buses running east and west on both sides of the river.

The Crosstown Route includes four major connection points: Maple Street and St. Mary’s Street, then Kings Place, the Regent Mall, and the Corbett Centre. This new route will be used as a main corridor on Sundays as well as pick up customers at all stops along the way.

“Over the past year, staff at Fredericton Transit have been working hard to ensure Sunday Transit Service becomes a reality for customers,” said Charlene Sharpe, Transit Manager for the City of Fredericton. “We anticipate this will be a more direct and robust service for customers and we look forward to exploring possible route improvements throughout the regular service week.”

A crosswalk has been installed on Maple Street, one of the major transfer points between the Ring Road and St. Mary’s Street, so pedestrians can travel safely to the bus stops. The City has also hired six new transit operators to help staff the service expansion for Sundays.

"Today is a moment in time that deserves to be celebrated in our city,” said Councillor Bruce Grandy, Chair of the City’s Mobility Committee. “Fredericton City Council is thrilled to provide riders with this extended service, while inspiring more people in Fredericton to take the bus in the future.”

Sunday Service was first announced in the fall of 2023 after Fredericton City Councillors voted in favour of the 2024 budget that included funding to expand Transit Service to seven days a week.

The new service is running between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday Bus Service was also introduced to Para Transit customers on June 2.
