As students return to the College Hill neighbourhood for the upcoming academic year, the Fredericton Police Force (FPF) is reaffirming its commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive community through proactive partnerships with students, landlords, post-secondary institutions, and area residents.

In collaboration with the University of New Brunswick (UNB) St. Thomas University (STU), New Brunswick Community College (NBCC), The New Brunswick College of Craft and Design (NBCCD) and the City of Fredericton, police are working to support a positive and safe environment for all residents. This approach is rooted in mutual respect, shared responsibility, and open communication.

To support this effort, the Fredericton Police Force invites College Hill residents to a public information session on Tuesday, August 26 (details below). The session will provide an opportunity for dialogue, feedback, and collaboration on safety plans for the academic year.

While the focus is on partnership and prevention, police remain prepared to enforce applicable laws when and where necessary. This means following rules like provincial laws and local by-laws to keep everyone safe and to address behaviours that pose risks to public safety or community’s well-being.

Key initiatives include:

•    Active and ongoing police and public safety presence during planned events.
•    Building relationships and awareness through community engagement patrols and door-to-door visits to share safety/enforcement information.
•    Collaborative planning and proactive communication by landlords to tenants intended to support safe and well-managed student housing and compliance.
•    Accessible resources, including strategically placed dumpsters, to reduce fire hazards during move-in.
•    Open communication channels between students, residents, police, and city officials.
•    Participation in the College Hill Working Group, a year-round forum for addressing community concerns through shared solutions.
