Riverside Drive Phase 3

Project Type:Construction Projects
Project Subtype:Neighborhood Projects

The City is moving forward with Phase 3 of the Riverside Drive project, which will renew underground water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer infrastructure in Hamilton Court and Bridgeview Court. Additionally, critical City-owned infrastructure will be realigned to ensure it is outside the footprint of a future roundabout planned by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DTI) at the Princess Margaret Bridge.

What to Expect:

Traffic Impacts:

  • Hamilton Court to Bridgeview Court will be limited to local residents from mid-May to the end of September.
  • No official detour will be in place, but residents will retain access to their homes.
  • Minimal disruptions are expected on Route 105 and Route 8, as the majority of the work will be done using trenchless technology (horizontal directional drilling)

Public Transit Impacts:

  • Transit routes are not expected to be affected beyond the traffic adjustments noted above.

Pedestrian Access:

  • Access to driveways for local resident will generally be maintained or re-established at the end of each workday.
  • There may be short periods where vehicle access is restricted; residents will be notified in advance.

The Benefits:

  • Infrastructure Renewal: Aging water, sewer, and storm infrastructure will be replaced, improving reliability for residents.
  • Enhanced Safety: The addition of an access point to Hamilton Court will improve safety and align with future roadway changes by DTI.
  • Flood Risk Mitigation: Upgrades to local watershed infrastructure will help manage stormwater and reduce pluvial flooding risks.

Additional Upgrades:

  • Improvements will be made to the sewage lift station next to Wetmore's Nursery.

Flood Protection:

Upgrading essential infrastructure- including water, storm, and sanitary sewer systems- will strengthen the City's ability to manage flood risks. These upgrades will reduce the chance of service disruptions due to high water levels and heavy rainfall events.

Project Timing & Future Work:

  • This work is part of the ongoing phased upgrades to Riverside Drive. Phase 3 is being prioritized to relocate critical infrastructure ahead of DTI's planned roundabout project, reducing the risk of operational issues once construction begins.
  • A final phase of infrastructure upgrades along Riverside Drive (Route 105) is planned. This will include further replacements and road elevation work.
