Ruth Breen was appointed as the City of Fredericton’s new Deputy Mayor at the regular City Council meeting held on June 8, 2026. She will serve in that capacity for the next two years.
This is Breen’s second term on Fredericton City Council; she was first elected in 2021 and in that time served as Chair of the City’s Livable Community Community from May 2024 until May 2026. She represents Ward 9 (Bishop Drive / Odell Park).
“I look forward to stepping into the role of Deputy Mayor and working alongside Mayor Hicks and my fellow councillors to serve Fredericton residents as we continue to build a city that is vibrant, safe, inclusive and affordable for all,” said Breen.
Breen is a retired Postal Worker and was active with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. Her work during that time focused on adult education related to labour and social justice.
As part of the regular Council meeting, new chairs and members were also announced for the City’s Standing Committees.
