The Fredericton Police Force is increasing its presence in business improvement areas (BIAs) in the coming weeks as part of its Direct Action Response Team (DART) initiative, an intelligence-led, proactive approach aimed at enhancing community safety.
Launched in 2025 as a pilot project, DART supports officer development through real-time mentorship while bringing together frontline officers, specialized units, and community partners to address public drug use, petty crime, and street-level disorder.
In its first few days of operation, the team has made several arrests, including impaired driving, possession of stolen property, trespassing, drug possession, breach of release conditions, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police.
The initiative will involve a coordinated, visible enforcement approach informed by community feedback and ongoing trends, with a focus on addressing unlawful behaviour and supporting safe, welcoming public spaces for residents, businesses and visitors.
Collaboration remains a key component of DART. The Fredericton Police Force continues to work with community partners, recognizing their role in fostering a safe and vibrant City through outreach, communication and coordination.
Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious or unlawful activity to the Fredericton Police Force by calling 506-460-2300 or by submitting a report online. Anonymous tips can also be provided through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. In an emergency, call 911.
The initiative also aligns with the Community Safety Task Force, including Recommendation 21, which supports a dedicated approach to addressing petty crime and increasing police presence in business improvement areas.
The Fredericton Police Force thanks community for their continued support.
