"Rules of the E-Ride”: Fredericton Police Launch Micromobility Education Campaign

The Fredericton Police Force has launched a new public education campaign to help residents understand the safe, responsible and legal use of e-bikes, e-scooters and electric dirt bikes. The campaign includes a dedicated webpage, bilingual social media content, educational graphics, stakeholder outreach, and community engagement.

As micromobility devices become more common in Fredericton, the Force has seen increased public questions about where these devices can be ridden, what rules apply and how they are regulated. While officers continue to address violations through enforcement when required, the campaign aims to provide clear information to riders, parents, schools, retailers and the broader community so that people understand the rules before enforcement becomes necessary.

"Safe and legal riding starts with understanding the rules," said Inspector David Cooper of the Fredericton Police Force. "Enforcement remains an important part of keeping our community safe, but education and shared responsibility are the best tools for preventing unsafe behaviour before it happens."

The campaign highlights key differences between e-bikes, e-scooters and electric dirt bikes, which laws govern their use, where they can legally operate, safety equipment requirements and potential penalties for violations.

Residents can learn more by visiting the Fredericton Police Force's micromobility webpage and following the Rules of the E-Ride campaign on social media.
