Multi-Unit Residential Recycling

Starting May 1, 2025, all residential buildings with five or more units will be required to allocate space for recycling containers and register with Circular Materials Atlantic for residential recycling collection services, in accordance with By-Law W-4. The Circular Materials program will continue to grow, with multi-family dwellings throughout the City gradually joining the recycling initiative for packaging and paper products in two phases: the first on May 1, 2025, followed by the second on November 1, 2025. This phased rollout is part of a broader effort to promote sustainability and increase recycling in the City.

The City is offering a limited-time rebate program to help building owners prepare a space for residential recycling collection. Applications will be reviewed by City staff and pre-approved on a first-come, first-serve basis up to October 31st, 2024, or until the program funding is exhausted. The cost of collection and the cost of bins will be covered through the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program administered by Circular Materials Atlantic on behalf of Recycle NB.

The program offers a rebate of up to $1,000 to residential building owners, property managers, or condo boards. Building owners or property managers can apply for a rebate for a maximum of two residential buildings in their portfolio with a maximum of $1,000 per property.
