The Parks & Trees division of the City of Fredericton is dedicated to managing our urban forests and greenspaces. Our efforts include planting new trees on city boulevards, rights of way, and greenspaces to green our neighborhoods, fill vacant plantable areas, and expand our urban forest. This tree planting initiative is also a key component of the City’s effort to combat the effects of climate change and enhance our urban forest canopy. Tree planting benefits not only the urban forest as a whole, but the community, neighbourhoods, and individual households. These advantages include cooling the City with increased canopy cover, improving air quality, reducing rainwater runoff, and boosting both mental and physical health.
The Community Tree Program was put in place to recruit community members to help care for newly planted City trees that require extra care during their first years of life. Before applying for a tree to be planted in front of your residence on City property in the City right-of-way, please visit the resources below on how to properly take care of your street tree to ensure it is able to grow and thrive.
