The Fredericton Police Force's Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) is dedicated to improving safety on roads, trails and public spaces through education, engagement and enforcement.
The TEU's mandate is to ensure the safe and lawful use of public roadways through proactive enforcement of motor vehicle legislation, as well as applicable federal and provincial statutes and municipal bylaws. The unit works to address traffic-related concerns, reduce unsafe driving behaviours and promote safer communities for all road users.
What We Do
Traffic Enforcement Unit members are specialized officers who focus on traffic-related offences, roadway safety and motor vehicle collision investigations. The TEU are responsible for a wide range of traffic safety and enforcement activities, including:
- Enforcing motor vehicle legislation and traffic-related Criminal Code offences.
- Conducting targeted enforcement initiatives focused on speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving and other high-risk behaviours.
- Conducting roadside inspections, patrols and traffic checkpoints.
- Investigating serious motor vehicle collisions involving significant damage, serious injuries or fatalities.
- Assisting with traffic control during emergencies, collisions, special events and road closures.
- Addressing traffic safety concerns raised by residents.
- Delivering public education and awareness initiatives that encourage safe and responsible road use.
- Working with government agencies, community organizations and other law enforcement partners to support traffic safety initiatives.
Report a Traffic Concern
The Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) relies on information from residents to help identify and address traffic safety concerns throughout the community. Reports from the public help officers monitor trends, focus enforcement efforts and respond to emerging issues.
Residents are encouraged to report concerns such as:
- Excessive speeding
- Distracted or aggressive driving
- Unsafe driving in school zones or residential neighbourhoods
- Frequent traffic violations at specific intersections or locations
